A pool that’s fine in May can turn green inside a week once the temperature climbs. Summer heat accelerates algae growth and burns through chlorine faster than your regular winter dose can keep up with.
Test More Often in Summer
During the warmer months, test at least twice a week. pH and chlorine levels swing more quickly when the water is warm and the pool is getting heavy use. Bring a 250ml sample into our Pool Supplies department and we’ll test it for free we’ll print the results and tell you exactly what to add, in what order.
After Rain or a Big Pool Party
Both dilute your chemicals and introduce contaminants. A shock treatment after either one will knock bacteria and algae back before they get a foothold. Ask our team which shock product suits your pool system chlorine, salt, and mineral pools each have different requirements.
Keep the Filter Running Longer
In summer, run your filter for longer than you would in winter 10 to 12 hours a day is a reasonable starting point for a residential pool. A clean filter working long enough is what keeps the water clear. Backwash sand filters regularly; rinse cartridge filters every few weeks. We stock replacement cartridges for most major brands.
Bring in a Sample Before It’s a Problem
Don’t wait until the water’s changed colour. A test when everything looks fine will often catch a pH drift or low stabiliser before it becomes a green-water weekend emergency.
